Scabiosa, also known as pincushion flower is such an interesting specimen! I love the way they look from bud to bloom. The name actually translates to mourning bride. The flowers are a very dark maroon to near black with contrasting white stamens.
Makes for a lovely cut flower or to enjoy in the garden. A must for the gothic garden.
Grows 2-3 feet tall and 6 inches to 1 foot wide.
Annual. Can be grown in any zone at the right temperature. Ideal temperatures are between 70 and 75 degrees. These will bloom from summer until first frost. They tend to self sow.
