A plant that attracts Monarch's so much that they will completely cover the long stalks to extract the nectar from this very beneficial plant. I did months of research to find which of the many Liatris attracts Monarchs like this.
There are a few different types of Liatris, they all attract Monarchs but none quite as much as the 'Meadow.' These Monarchs were nearly starving until they came upon this field of Liatris. Milkweed is wonderful for supporting Monarch eggs and caterpillars but other plants such as this, feed the actual mature butterflies very efficiently.
These can be planted when temperatures are 45 degrees or less colder climates where the plants will emerge in spring. In warmer climates or if planting in spring, you can simply cold stratify the seeds in your refrigerator for 60 days, which is not difficult, I provide very detailed instructions on how to do this and have done it myself many times.
This is for approx 100 seeds

Grows to an impressive 3-5 feet tall and 1-1.5 feet wide.
