Pee Gee Hydrangea
Hydrangea paniculata 'Grandiflora' is a deciduous shrub native to China and Japan, growing into a large, arching specimen that can reach ten feet or more at maturity. Its common name, Pee Gee, derives simply from the initials of its cultivar designation. The flower heads are panicles — elongated, cone-shaped clusters — opening creamy white in midsummer and aging through soft pink to parchment as the season progresses, making them useful for both the late-summer garden and dried arrangements. This is a reliably cold-hardy hydrangea, blooming on new wood each year, which makes it more forgiving than many of its relatives.
