Rosa Chinensis, Chinese Rose

Chinese Roses take some patience but are a little easier to grow than the standard variety. They don't require the same chilling temperatures and can be planted indoors, 6-8 weeks before your last expected frost(if your home is cool) or outdoors between now and April. The seeds like cool temperatures to germinate but don't require freezing temperatures. Freezing will not harm them though. They like temperatures to slowly rise to the 60's and 70's, for 4-6 weeks, to emerge. Meaning that they may take longer to germinate if you plant them early but will not be harmed. They can remain in the ground (or pots) for quite some time as they are very hard seeds.

This is a mini variety (for roses), reaching 1 1/2-2 1/2 feet tall, but up to 5 feet wide! They are kind of a rambling, but compact type, perfect for containers or as ground cover. The coolest thing about them is there capacity for oodles of blooms, which range in color from hot pink, to pink to a pale pink, almost white.

Perennial zones 4-9
