Lamprocapnos Spectabilis
10 Seeds
Named for its heart shaped blossoms that appear to be “bleeding.” Such a delicate and beautiful flowering plant.
Can be planted in fall/winter for a spring emergence or cold stratified in your refrigerator.
These should be planted in shade only or indoors. These are beautiful in a hanging baskets. Believe it or not, these plants actually survived the brutal summer of my zone 10.
These are perennials that develop underground rhizomes that return every spring. It grows a little larger with each growing season, reaching heights of 2-3 feet after 5 years.
This is for 10 Seeds.
USDA Zones 3-9 Perennial.
These are a challenge that require some patience. In cooler regions that have snowfall, simply plant them in fall, either in pots or the ground and keep the soil consistently moist until winter. The seeds will develop into rhizomes and remain dormant until spring.
If you really want to grow this plant but live in an area that does not have snow fall, you will want to cold-moist stratify the seeds in your refrigerator. Fill small pots(small enough to fit into large ziploc baggies- little succulent pots are perfect) with a premium potting soil. Water the soil, plant the seeds in the soil, seal the baggie and keep them in your refrigerator for a minimum of 6 weeks and a maximum of 3 months. The longer that are in there, the better chances of your success so I recommend 3 months. After 3 months, place the seeds in a warm sunny location when temperatures are around 70 degrees. Unfortunately, germination is very unreliable and can take anywhere from a few weeks to 6 months. Like I said, these require some patience but certainly worth the wait!
