Native to southern Mexico and the Americas, Epazote has been used in the cuisines of these areas for centuries. It is believed that the Mayans used it both culinarily and medicinally.

It is used in many cuisines containing beans as it is known to prevent unwanted gas from consuming legumes, when eaten together.

Leaves can be eaten raw, cooked or brewed in tea. Pregnant and nursing women should not consume raw Epazote.
