Matricaria Chamomilla

100 seeds, organic

A truly beautiful flower with a big purpose. There are two major types of Chamomile, Roman and German. I have both types available. Both are used for tea and both have medicinal value. The major difference is that Roman is a perennial while German is an annual although German readily re-seeds. The Roman has much more substantial and larger flowers and leaves. It grows shorter getting 3-4 inches tall and is hardy to zone 5. The leaves smell like apples.

German Chamomile:
Medicinal Value
Annual but re-seeds
Grows to 18 inches tall
Produces many more but smaller flowers
Has wispy dill-like foliage
The leaves smell like apples.

Roman Chamomile:
Medicinal Value
Perennial
Grows to 3-4 inches high
Produces much larger but less flowers
Is also used as a ground cover & lawn substitute
The leaves smell like applies

Chamomile has been used for centuries to calm anxiety, aid in sleep and settles the stomach.

Here is a more extensive look at its' medicinal properties:

Anti-Inflammatory Effects:German chamomile contains compounds such as chamazulene that have anti-inflammatory properties. It is used topically and in teas to help soothe skin irritations, including conditions like eczema and dermatitis.

Digestive Aid:Chamomile tea is often consumed to help relieve digestive issues such as indigestion, gas, and bloating. It is believed to have mild antispasmodic properties that may help relax the digestive tract.

Calming and Sleep Aid:German chamomile is widely known for its calming effects. Drinking chamomile tea before bedtime may help promote relaxation and improve sleep quality.

Mild Sedative:Due to its calming properties, German chamomile is sometimes used as a mild sedative to help manage anxiety and stress.

Anti-Anxiety Effects:Some studies suggest that chamomile may have anxiolytic (anxiety-reducing) effects, possibly related to its ability to influence neurotransmitters in the brain.

Menstrual Pain Relief:Chamomile tea is sometimes used to help alleviate menstrual cramps and discomfort due to its muscle-relaxant properties.

Antioxidant Properties:German chamomile contains antioxidants that may help combat oxidative stress in the body. Antioxidants play a role in protecting cells from damage caused by free radicals.

Respiratory Health:Inhalation of chamomile steam or the use of chamomile tea may be soothing for respiratory conditions. It is sometimes used to help alleviate symptoms of colds and allergies.

Wound Healing:Topical applications of German chamomile, such as chamomile-infused oils or creams, are believed to support wound healing and reduce inflammation.

Chamomile tea can be easily be made from fresh or dried flowers by boiling 8 oz of water and steeping 3-4 tbsp of flowers for 5 minutes. Use a fine mesh strainer to remove the flowers.
