Sagina Subulata, Pearlwort, Ground Cover
10,000 seeds
An evergreen perennial down to zone 4!
A soft lush carpet of rich green moss with beautiful tiny flowers that bloom on and off throughout the year.
Irish Moss is not an actual moss but rather a creeping grass that makes for an excellent soft ground cover, to grow between flag stones or as a lawn substitute. It even makes for an adorable indoor plant! (See my other listing for 50-200 seeds.)
These grow best in full sun in cold climates and in shade to part sun in warm climates.
Irish moss can be sown in starter pots or direct sown for larger quantities. Seeds should be pressed into the soil so that they are just barely covered. Ideal germination temps are between 64 and 72 degrees but it can also be started indoors and transplanted where it can grow in a wide variety of temperatures.
It is a permanent plant and remains evergreen down to zone 4. Growing zones 4-10.
It grows to only 1-2 inches tall and the width is limitless given some time. Space the plants 12 inches apart and they will meet each other.
This is for 10,000 seeds
If you are wanting this for a large area, 10,000 seeds will cover 200 square feet to give you an idea of the calculation for your desired area. Please see my other listings for 50 seeds for pots, 200 for a small area such as around flagstones and 5,000 to cover a 100 square foot area.
FYI - the seeds are TINY! If you are wanting larger seeds, I do have a pelleted version of 2500 or 5000. The raw seeds are a better value but there is a possibility of some waste by spreading the seed too close together because it’s hard to see.
I combine shipping on all seed orders, you pay one flat fee for as many seeds as you would like for no additional shipping. Orders over $35 for any combination of items in my shop ship for free!
All of my seeds are tested and guaranteed. Most of my seeds are fresh off of my own plants.
