Hibiscus sabdariffa

20 seeds, organic

This plant is highly prized on every continent.

Native to West Africa, Roselle fruit, stems and leaves have been used for centuries, by many different cultures.

The reason this plant has received so much attention is for the astonishing amount of phytochemicals and antioxidants that give it its rich red coloring.

The flowers are a beautiful cream, 3- 4 inches wide with a deep red center. The fruit (calyx) is 1- 1 1/2 inches wide and is a fleshy deep red.

The red calyces are exported all over the world and used as food colorings and syrups. The leaves are used in salads and are highly nutritious.

In the Caribbean, a drink is made from the roselle fruit (the calyces with the seed pods removed). It is prepared by boiling fresh, frozen or dried roselle fruit in water for 8 to 10 minutes (or until the water turns red), then adding sugar. Bay leaves and cloves may also be added during boiling.

In many parts of the world it is used as jams, jellies and preserves. It can also be made into a tea.

This can be used as a food replacement and has fed many people in areas of the world where food is scarce.

This is also included in my hot climate survival seed pack.

Perennial zones 9-11, can be grown as an annual. The seeds are very abundant and can be planted every year.

This is for 20 seeds
