The very first truly pink sunflower! Strawberry blonde offers pink and rose hues with lemon yellow petals and what makes this even more special is the yellow ring around the dark center, that looks like an eclipse. This is an early variety that is only 55-60 days from sprout to flower!
These also have a branching habit so you get multiple flowers at a time on each plant.
These are an F1 Hybrid. An F1 Hybrid is when a plant is either hand pollinated by humans in order to get a desired attribute or sometimes it’s a beautiful bee accident.
This is hand pollinated which means once the seeds are sold out, that’s that, unless the original creator decides to re-release the seeds or provide the information for the parent plants. This is why you are probably having a hard time finding these seeds anywhere.
Seeds from the flowers(not to be confused with these seeds, but rather babies of these seeds) of this plant may or may not look like the original flower, they may be less or even more impressive. It’s all up to the bees at that point. This is why you sometimes get sunflower seeds that don’t all look like the package. This is why you will see autumn mix or evening sun mix. Sunflowers are very attractive to bees and cross pollination is an absolute. I encourage people to grow more than one type of sunflower at a time, save the seeds, replant the following season and see what you get. You just might grow the next best sunflower.
If a farmer is growing more than one type of sunflower, which is likely in commercial growing, you’re going to get plants that look like the picture and plants that look close to the picture. It’s actually pretty exciting to see what you get.
F1 Hybrids or any hybrids for that matter are not to be confused with genetically modified plants. GMO Plants are created in a lab and you will not find those seeds in my shop.
Sunflowers like warmth. Plant in late spring or summer in cooler climates and any time of year in zones 9+. These can handle some heat but appreciate being well irrigated. Because these are sprout to flower in only 90 days, you can plant these as a late season flower.
Sunflowers are a great way to attract bees to your garden as they find them irresistible and will pollinate everything else while visiting, yielding you more flowers and vegetables throughout your garden.
Grows 4-6 feet tall with single and sometimes double blooms at a time on one plant. Flowers are 5-6 inches wide!
