This is such a cool vegetable for those that are unfamiliar. They taste like cabbage, delicious sweet purple bulbs that grow above ground. The outside is purple with inner white flesh.

Kohlrabi is a German word meaning cabbage turnip, but Kohlrabi is not a root vegetable.

A very nutritious cruciferous vegetable that contains anthocyanin(an antioxidant found in blueberries) in the outer skin.

Kohlrabi has so many uses in recipes, it can be eaten raw in salads (as well as the tender young greens), shredded into a slaw, stir fried in Asian dishes or roasted(yum!) See second photo for roasted kohlrabi.

This is an early variety and sprouts in only 6-9 days. Seeds can be planted only 6 inches apart as these don’t take up a lot of space in the garden. Plant however many seeds as actual plants desired as the germination rate is very high.

These can be started indoors from early spring to early fall in cooler climates(when temps are between 45-80 degrees F) or in late fall to winter and spring in warmer climates.
