Rosemarinus Officinalis
50 seeds
Grow your own edible Christmas Tree! Rosemary also makes for a wonderfully aromatic smudge bundle!
This is for 50 Certified Organic Rosemary Seeds. The Germination rate of rosemary is about 30% so 50 seeds will likely yield you 15 plants. While they are not overly particular about growing temperatures, the do need significant warmth to sprout. Temperatures should be a minimum of 70 degrees and preferably between 80-90 degrees, using a heat mat designated for plants (many seeds need this so it's a good investment.) If your outdoor temperatures are very warm, just start them outside.
Rosemary is very easy to grow and makes for a great indoor house plant. There is a secret! If you’ve tried and failed to grow Rosemary indoors in the past, this is why:
Rosemary is native to the Mediterranean where is gets its water from the droplets of the sea filled air. This does not mean that you don’t water them, but, you do want to simulate these conditions which is very easy to do.
Plant your seeds in a pot with a drainage dish. Place rocks(or decorative marbles) in the bottom of the drainage dish so that the pot rests on the rocks, not the dish. Water as normal. Just enough to keep it moist but not wet. Allow the excess water to rest in the rock filled dish below and the plant will extract the water as it evaporates into the room! Just like it does in the wild. Place the plant in a sunny window and it will thrive all winter. You can return it outdoors in spring where it requires basically zero maintenance or you can keep it indoors year round as a permanent house plant that will also clean your air!
Rosemary tends to grow in a Christmas tree like shape anyway. Trim as needed to maintain the tree shape and use the clippings for your favorite Rosemary cuisine.
You can even put little battery operated string lights and decorations on it for the holidays!
There is no substitute for clipping and using your own homegrown Rosemary. Speaking from experience, I have purchased rosemary clippings from the store and they serve their purpose but when I grow my own, I noticed that the plant was covered in this dew like substance that was rosemary oil! It produces so much of it, you can actually see it on the plant! The kind you get from the store is dried out and you are missing all of that beneficial oil.
You can even steam the rosemary clippings and get your own oil for diffusers.
Rosemary is a rich source of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds, which are thought to help boost the immune system and improve blood circulation. Rosemary is considered a cognitive stimulant and can help improve memory performance and quality. It is also known to boost alertness, intelligence, and focus.
