Papaver Orientale
50 seeds
I was in awe of this flower, the stark white with black spots and contrasting center. The black spots seem to streak into a hot pink as if they were liquified. Absolutely stunning and what a perfect contrast.
These are actually best planted in the fall! Reason being is that they adore cold weather. Oriental poppies don’t typically bloom their first year if planted in the spring, because they need that period of harsh cold to develop. If you plant seeds in the fall, they will bloom the following spring.
These are a permanent fixture. A perennial that returns every spring and gets more and more abundant with blooms with each passing year.
On top of the beauty, the flowers are huge, up to 6 inches across!
NOTE: I do not recommend attempting to grow these in climates warmer than zone 7. They need snow fall and periods of freeze and thaw to bloom. If you are in a tropical climate, I would recommend any other poppies other than oriental poppies. You are welcome to try to grow them in warmer climates, but unfortunately, I cannot guarantee that the seeds will sprout or live long enough to flower.
Growing zones 3-7.
