It is imperative that these seeds are fresh in order to germinate. Otherwise, they are extremely easy to grow. They are recommended for zones 10+ only though. As little room as I have left in my jungle, I just had to have this tree. It's a nice addition because it remains short, topping out at 12 feet at the most.


The flowers are a beautiful pink followed by bright red fuzzy seed pods, from which it gets its name, lipstick tree. The pulp that surrounds the seeds is where the very popular food additive comes from Annatto! I'm sure you have seen it as a natural ingredient in your favorite orange cheese as well as many other foods. It is also used to dye clothing and skin!
