These have become quite popular and quite expensive!

Fortunately they are easier to grow from seed than you might think. The key though, is heat! They prefer temps between 80 and 95 degrees to germinate, so if you are not in a warm climate, you will want to utilize a heat mat for plants. These are very fresh seeds, another very important key to success.

The Madagascar Palm (Pacypodium Lamerei) is actually not a palm at all, but a succulent that resembles a palm tree. It has a very distinctive and attractive form, with spikes all along the "trunk" and leaves at the top. It is native to Madagascar and parts of Africa. It is in the family Apocynaceae.

It can reach heights up to 25 feet and a "trunk" of 1 foot wide, in its native habitat. It prefers arid conditions and can handle periods of drought, but I have had great success in my humid Florida, zone 10.

In my numerous gardening groups on social media, I have seen several very impressive specimens that are grown in very cold climates and brought indoors every winter. Many people assume that you need to live in Arizona or California to grow this plant. Not true. One of the most beautiful ones I have seen was proudly grown in Missouri, where its owner carefully brings it indoors every winter. It was very impressive in size as well.

It is very important that you provide the plant with well draining soil. I believe that is why I have been so successful growing it in such a humid environment with very wet summers (and winters for this one!)

This is for 10 seeds

Perennial zones 10-13, any zone as a house plant.
