This is a red with an opalescent white-silver shimmer. They shimmer and sparkle in the sun.

I grew Red Lion with Appleblossom Amaryllis and they cross-pollinated to produce this stunning cultivar.

I have not seen this color combination before, so I named it Samson’s Red Apple. Red from Lion and Apple from Appleblossom. Since my son has a propensity for running into my flowers, I give him full credit for this cross-pollinating event. 😂

The offspring of these have consistently produced the same characteristics as the mother plants.

Very limited supply. Most people are used to seeing Amaryllis bulbs for sale but the plants also produce very easily from seed. After blooming, the seed pods ripen and produce these thin, black papery seeds.

Seeds are produced in summer and should be planted right away. These are fresh seeds off of my personal plant.

Growing Amaryllis from seeds can take some patience. Sometimes they sprout in one week, but can take up to 4 weeks. I have seen recommendations to germinate the seeds out of direct sunlight, but I simply bury mine next to the mother plant where they receive morning sun. Some have come up that I haven't even planted and have self sowed. Before you know it, you will have a nice collection of them.

Perennial in zones 7+. Please note that in zones 7-8A, the bulbs (that will form from the seeds,) will need extra winter protection by heavy mulching around the plant. Some people also keep them container kept to ensure their survival in cooler climates. Surprisingly, the bulbs don't take up a great deal of room and don't require a huge pot. They can be kept in ground permanently without protective measures in zones 8B+

Plants can take a couple of years to produce flowers. Once they do, they will reward you with 4 huge bell shaped flowers per stalk and will do so every summer for up to 75 years!
