They are a perennial that returns every spring in zones 6-10! Very rare for beans, which typically produce seed and then die. This is an ideal plant for a food forest as it is a permanent fixture!

The flowers are a pretty purple and the beans are black and can be used as you would other kidney beans, such as for chili or other soups.
