If you are looking for a drought tolerant Globe Thistle, this one is for you!
These thrive in harsh environments with cold winters and dry summers. They are an excellent choice for rock gardens and xeriscaping. They are a perennial in zones 4-8.
The blooms are a shimmering silver blue to silver purple in color. They almost glow in the sun. Pollinators go absolutely crazy for globe thistle.
Regions like these would be:
Western U.S.: Areas like the Rocky Mountains, the Great Basin, and parts of the desert Southwest ( Nevada, Arizona, Utah) are perfect due to their dry and sometimes extreme climates as well as dry areas of California.
Northeastern U.S.: Places with cooler summers and colder winters, such as parts of New York, Pennsylvania, and Vermont, would be suitable for growing this plant in well-drained, rocky soil.
Midwest: Regions in the Midwest that have colder winters and hot, dry summers, such as Nebraska or Kansas, would also work well.
The seeds require 4-6 weeks of cold stratification. Plant in fall for a spring emergence or simulate winter by cold stratifying in your refrigerator. Fold the seeds into a moist paper towel and seal in a ziploc bag and place in your refrigerator for 60 days and then place outdoors when temps are between 65 and 75.
Grows from 2-3 feet tall and 1 1/2-2 feet wide
