Blue Torch Cactus

Blue Torch Cactus is the common name shared by several columnar cacti, most notably Pilosocereus azureus (syn. P. pachycladus), a tall, tree-forming species native to the semi-arid regions of northeastern Brazil. Its distinctly blue-green stems are densely covered in golden to russet spines and a fine white wool that collects at the areoles, giving the plant a layered, textural presence. Slow-growing but eventually imposing, it suits container culture in cool climates or permanent outdoor placement in warm, dry gardens. Nocturnal pink flowers appear on mature specimens, attracting bats in its native habitat.
