CLUSTERED MOUNTAIN MINT
Pycnanthemum muticum
Pycnanthemum muticum, commonly called clustered mountain mint, is a robust native perennial of the eastern United States, growing in upright clumps typically reaching two to three feet in height. Its broad, silver-bracted flower heads give the plant a frosted appearance in midsummer, drawing an exceptional density of native bees, wasps, and butterflies — few plants in the summer garden rival it for pollinator activity. The foliage carries a clean, intense mint fragrance when brushed. Well-suited to borders, meadow plantings, or rain gardens, it tolerates both average and moderately moist soils and spreads gradually by rhizome over time.
