deep-purple-carrot-dc0550
Deep Purple Carrot Seeds, Daucus Carota, DC0550
This vegetable has one of the highest concentration of anthocyanins of any other fruit or vegetable on Earth! Anthocyanins are found in blueberries and red wine. An extremely nutritious purplish black carrot loaded with antioxidants. These are stunning in a salad! Unlike most purple carrots, these are not orange or yellow on the inside, these are nearly purple- black straight through the whole juicy carrot and they’re sweet too! These are so deep and dark that they will temporarily stain your fingers purple!

These are very similar to the Tropical black carrot that I used to offer, but these have a much higher germination rate at 88% (standard for most vegetable seeds) versus only 40-50% for the Tropical black carrot which simply have a naturally low germination rate.

These can be grown in late spring and summer in cooler climates and even fall in some areas. (Temperatures should be between 50-75 degrees.) and spring, fall and winter in warmer climates. These are ready in only 60-85 days so they are a great late season crop.

These need to be surface sowed by gently pressing them into the soil. Keep well watered.

This is for 50 organic, Non GMO seeds.

I combine shipping on all seed orders, you pay one flat fee for as many seeds as you would like for no additional shipping. Please see below for full planting instructions.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

These grow best in temperatures between 50 and 75 degrees. If temperatures are too hot, they tend to be stunted and bitter. Planting time will depend on your climate. Choose a location that gets full sun. Prepare a bed with premium garden soil. Dig down a few inches and replace the soil with garden soil if you don’t already have a designated planting area.

Thoroughly wet the soil so it gets deep down before planting. These need to be surface sowed by pressing the seeds into the soil about ¼ inch. Space seeds 2-3 inches apart.

Water daily until they sprout which takes about 12-18 days and then water frequently so they don’t get dried out. Make a note of when you plant these as it can be hard to tell when it is time to harvest. Once you pull them out to check you can’t put them back unfortunately! You can get a good idea as you will see the tops of the carrots just above the soil but the best way to tell is to mark the date and harvest 10 to 12 weeks after planting. These are a beautiful deep purple almost black carrot with a very high concentration of antioxidants.

A NOTE ON SEED STORAGE:

If your temperatures are not quite right for planting, you can keep the seeds viable by keeping them in the plastic bag that I send them in (which is thick and food grade for specifically this purpose,) place that in a paper bag to block light and put it in your refrigerator until you are ready to plant. This can be done with most all seeds and will keep them viable for 1-5 years depending on the species. If you have a basement, you can store them there as well. A sealed mason jar in a paper bag is also ideal. They key for seed storage is cool, dark and dry.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0973/5815/2043/files/0_881e43a1-0763-406c-872c-9dfa902b11d9.jpg?v=1775071854
