Celosia argentea var. cristata is an annual grown across tropical and subtropical regions, now cultivated worldwide for its distinctly crested, brain-like flower heads — a growth form called fasciation, where the stem tip proliferates into a broad, convoluted fan. In the 'Dragon's Breath' selection, those crests burn in deep crimson to scarlet, held on upright stems that work equally well in the cutting garden or the ornamental border. The velvety flower heads hold their color for weeks, fresh or dried, and pollinators visit the blooms readily before seed sets.
