Each cup-shaped, four-petaled flower rises on a slender, hairy stem 12-24 inches tall, hovering above soft, feathery blue-green foliage. The blooms carry a light, sweet fragrance and a contrasting yellow center, making them just as lovely cut for a vase as they are left to flutter in the garden.
Iceland Poppy is a short-lived perennial in cold climates and thrives as a colorful annual in warmer zones (5-10), readily self-sowing where it's happy, so you may enjoy returning blooms year after year without replanting. It is a native of Northern Europe (including Iceland) and Arctic North America.
Cold Stratification: Highly Recommended. Sow in fall or winter for a spring emergence or refrigerate seeds by folding in a moist paper towel and seal in a ziploc bag with the label and date for 2-4 weeks
Sowing: Surface sow; do not cover, as the seeds need light to germinate
Light: Full sun to partial shade
Bloom Time: Spring through summer in cool climates; fall through spring in warm climates
Height: 12-24 inches
Hardiness: Zones 1-4 (perennial), Zones 5-10 (annual)
