Mellow Scarlets Echinacea Seeds
Set your summer garden on fire with Mellow Scarlets Echinacea, a hot blend of deep orange, strawberry and tomato red coneflowers, with many blooms glowing in a juicy peachy watermelon shade. Don’t let the name fool you, this mix runs bold, with petals ringing dark mahogany cones that keep their good looks long after the petals fade. Because this is a seed grown color mix, shades vary from plant to plant, so no two blooms look exactly the same.
These sturdy, well branched plants reach about 2 1/2 feet tall and send up a steady stream of blooms from summer into fall. They are first year flowering seed strains, so you can enjoy blooms in the very first season, then watch them return year after year as a long lived perennial clump. They make excellent cut flowers, and butterflies love them.
Mellow Scarlets is drought tolerant once established and grows in full sun to part shade in any well drained soil. Hardy in zones 4 to 8. Leave a few seed heads standing in fall to feed the birds.
As always, every seed we offer is 100% non GMO. Whether heirloom, open pollinated, or hybrid, our seeds are never lab altered or genetically modified, just real seeds bred the traditional way.
Growing Tips:
Start seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before your last frost date, or direct sow after the danger of frost has passed. Cover seeds thinly with soil and keep them at 68 to 75°F. Seedlings typically appear in 14 to 21 days. Space plants 18 inches apart in full sun and well drained soil. Deadhead through summer for more blooms.
