sunshine-mimosa-mp0225
Native Sunshine Mimosa Seeds, Lawn Substitute, Sensitive Plant , Mimosa Strigillosa,Pink Powderpuff, Shy Plant ,Ground Cover MP0225
You may have seen my other listing for Mimosa Pudica, this is a related species but unlike Pudica, Minisa Strigillosa is a US native and is best suited for planting outdoors, where it is used as a ground cover. It has the same sensitive plant “reaction,” as Pudica. See below:

If you’ve never seen a sensitive plant it’s one of the coolest things ever! Have you ever seen a plant move by itself?

The leaves of Mimosa Strigillosa, also known as sensitive plant, shame plant and touch me not has delicate leaves that recoil and close in response to touch, instantly! The leaves re-open in a few minutes once the plant is left undisturbed. They also close at night.

Also referred to as a “smart plant,” each plant will respond differently based on its environment. If the plant is disturbed frequently by a predator, it will close its leaves for a longer period. If it needs more nutrients, the leaves will remain open longer when dusk approaches to get as much light as possible for photosynthesis.

The plant spreads quite rapidly with its beautiful fern like foliage and powder puff lavender-pink to purple blooms. It will choke out weeds and can be used as a lawn substitute similar to peanut plant. It’s so effective at this that counties use them to beautify medians so that mowing is no longer necessary.

The benefits don’t stop there, the plant is in the legume family and is a nitrogen fixer which uses beneficial bacteria in the soil to create its own nitrogen by collecting it from the atmosphere.
This not only makes fertilizer virtually unnecessary, it actually enriches the soil with more nitrogen than there was to begin with.

GROWING CONDITIONS:
This plant thrives in heat and humidity.
Perennial zones 8-10.

This plant is native to the Gulf Coast of the following states:
Florida
Georgia
Louisiana
Texas
Mississippi
Alabama

It is also native to the warmer (zone 8) parts of Arkansas

In zones 9 and up, this plant will live indefinitely and bloom almost year round. In zones 8, it will return in spring. it’s a welcome addition to my garden, I would just assume it cover the whole lawn with its gorgeous blooms like a field of wildflowers. In a time where traditional lawns are being reconsidered for lower maintenance plants that don’t require harmful over-fertilization that harms waterways and eliminates the need for mowing and weeding, this is the plant of the future for tropical lawns.

Can handle full or part sun. Full sun will give you more blooms. They are virtually care free but do need significant water until established. Once established they are very drought tolerant.

This is for 25 seeds

I combine shipping on all seed orders, you pay one flat fee for as many seeds as you would like for no additional shipping.
