Add rare, dark beauty to your garden with Violetta Mullein, a striking perennial prized for its deep, velvety violet purple blooms, some of the darkest flowers found anywhere in the Verbascum family. Slender, airy flower spikes rise above a low, tidy rosette of deep green, purple flushed foliage.
Compact for a mullein, Violetta reaches just 18 to 30 inches tall, making it perfectly suited for smaller gardens, borders, and rock gardens where taller mulleins simply won't fit. Blooming from late spring through late summer, this drought tolerant, deer and snail resistant beauty is a true plant and enjoy performer, thriving in poor, dry soils where many other flowers struggle. Butterflies and bees flock to its blooms, and its attractive seed heads continue the show even after flowering ends, gradually darkening to a rich reddish black.
Violetta self seeds readily once established, often returning season after season with charming, subtly varied seedlings that keep the display feeling fresh and a little unpredictable, a welcome surprise most gardeners come to love.

Growing Tips:

For improved germination, seeds may be cold stratified in the refrigerator for 4 to 6 weeks before sowing. Space plants 12 to 18 inches apart in full sun to part shade in well drained, lean to average soil. Avoid overly rich soil, as it can cause plants to flop. Deadhead after the initial bloom flush to encourage quick reblooming. Hardy in USDA zones 4 through 9.
