A great selection for warm to tropical gardens, Fortnight Lily or White African Iris is an evergreen perennial in zones 8-11.
They are extremely easy to grow from seed
It is known for its attractive foliage. The leaves are long and sword-shaped, similar in appearance to those of iris plants, which is why it’s often called the “African Iris.” Even when not blooming (which they do most of the time,) the leaves give the appearance of large ornamental grasses without the maintenance. I have rows of these growing all around my patio area.
The plant produces beautiful and striking iris-like flowers. These flowers are typically white with yellow and blue markings, creating an eye-catching display. Each flower lasts for about one day but is quickly replaced by others, resulting in intermittent flowering cycles.
Dietes iridioides typically forms clumps of foliage and can reach a height of about 2 to 3 feet (60 to 90 centimeters). It has a graceful and upright growth habit.
African Iris is well-suited to warm and temperate climates. It’s often grown in regions with mild winters and warm summers.
