Spearmint, a less aggressive taste than peppermint is what most people a referring to when they say "mint," as a garnish or for desserts or cocktails.
Mint is a wonderful garnish for desserts, fruit, mojitos, Moscow mules (my favorite), teas or just to munch on in the garden. I have been know to take a sprig or two of both parsley and mint while gardening. There is not substitute for fresh leaves off the plant.
These are perennials down to zone 4! Mint can spread and provide you with a plentiful harvest for many years. It also makes for an attractive ground cover.
